Mahler Songs of Wayfarer

"Our third concert of the season opens with a piece from yet another Scandinavian, Niels Gade, after Nielsen possibly the best known Danish composer. His stirring Echoes of Ossian (drawn from Celtic legend) will get the concert off to a lively start. We then have the refreshing experience of having a voice soloist for Gustav Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer, which, like a number of our works this year, is folk-song inspired. Rachmaninov’s monumentally romantic second symphony, full of highly expressive melodic invention and colourful orchestration will complete the programme."Details
